The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien Background

In taking over hosting duties at The Tonight Show, Conan has inherited an institution. The legendary NBC late-night talk show has been on the air for over 50 years. As well as Jay Leno, past Tonight Show hosts have included Steve Allen, Jack Paar, and of course Johnny Carson. Tall, pasty, and sort of awkward, Conan O'Brien may seem an unlikely addition to the pantheon, but no doubt he'll quickly prove himself worthy. Conan O'Brien begins hosting The Tonight Show on June 1, 2009.

A former writer for comedy TV shows like Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, Conan O'Brien has a sharp and self-deprecating wit that endears him to his loyal audience.

In 1993, Conan O'Brien succeeded David Letterman as host of Late Night, and after over 15 years amusing the night owls, he now succeeds another talk show king, Jay Leno. Although his new job as host of the Tonight Show carries more prestige, Conan has vowed that The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien will retain the crazy, quirky spirit of Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
