In 2013, Jeff Zucker became the President of CNN. The move garnered mixed reviews as his track record at NBC included some unsuccessful projects. While some criticize CNN for their news coverage strategy, Zucker’s time at the company has resulted in ratings success. In 2014, CNN surpassed MSNBC in second place for news channels behind the perennial first place station, FOX News.
Popular CNN anchor Anderson Cooper welcomed Zucker to CNN and was happy about the new change. Since Zucker’s hiring, ratings have gone up for CNN, as the network has introduced documentary like programming along with its extensive news coverage. Zucker also grew CNN’s digital presence, helping it become the 10th most trafficked news outlet.
